Ted Hanks Seminar

On April 7 participants assembled from all over the state for Ted Hanks' demonstration. Ted, a former member of MWCA, is not only an expert carver, but also an accomplished water color artist. Ted demonstrated how he constructs legs and feet, using copper wire, solder and a torch, for his miniature shore birds.

Ted carves almost all of his birds with a small sanding drum. Ted built this carving setup which allows him to work with his piece and sanding tool inside of a box with two armholes and a plastic see-through top. This is all connected to a large vacuum to remove all the dust.

After the demonstration,
and an enlightening
question and answer
period, Ted graciously
demonstrated his art
of watercolor.
